Starline Theorie
Starline Theorie was formed in early 2002. The initial concept was to bring diverse
outlooks and influences together, juxtaposing sounds and styles. The core group consists
of Thomas Fuhr on guitars, Dustin Luna on drums and loops, and Wood on bass. The group
has a revolving cast of singers and players with upwards of 10 people on stage at some
shows and as little as 4 on others. The band's first release was 'Vega', released locally
in 2003 and internationally in March of 2004. With radio support from local stations
(especially Midori on The Big Sonic Chill on 94.9 and Brissia on Tijuana's DIJazz)
and reviews from national and international press, the record is only now starting to
pick up steam. 'Obon' followed in 2004 and has increased the band's exposure and following
both in the U.S. and Japan, Benelux, the U.K. and the EU.
The band has a tentative invitation to play in Amsterdam and Berlin in Spring 2006.
Starline's music has been licensed for use in surf films (Fueled for example), Mexican tv
documentaries, and indie films. It's difficult to describe the band's sound: 'Cinematic Dub'
has been used, as has ambient, textural, down tempo, and similiar phrases. Groups they've
been compared to include: Massive Attack, Dead Can Dance, Mogwai, and Radiohead.
But...as we all know, it's best to listen for yourself.
